What is the project?
A development agreement has been signed for the Royal Arcade scheme and work to demolish the vacant shops is well underway – with the whole site due to be cleared by spring.
The scheme will include:
- a new bus station with an enclosed passenger waiting area
- a 400-space multi-storey car park
- leisure, restaurant and retail units, and
- a new state-of-the-art cinema.
Over the next year, the council will also continue to progress plans for Crewe to become the location of a new state-of-the art history centre to co-host the region’s archive.
The town centre regeneration programme – which includes public realm improvements – has a key role in kick-starting preparations to make Crewe ‘HS2 Ready’.
